1949 Myford Tool-Room Lathe
This lathe harkens from our time spent in the UK - going to boot sales, flea and street markets. The seller told us he had used this lathe when he worked for the Triumph motorcycle factory – and was allowed to keep it when he retired! We were lucky enough to meet him, and buy this lovely old lathe. OK, at the time it was not lovely, it was filthy. So, like 20 years ago I restored the lathe, which, at the time, did not have the quick-change gearbox it now sports. At some point I had also bought the gear box, and put it on a shelf to one day restore and install.
That day finally arrived a month or so ago. Fortunately, Myford is still very much a going concern, and was able to supply the bits and bobs I needed to properly clean up this lovely bit of kit. A bit amazing, the little gear box has 24 different ratios, which can then be multiplied by changing gears below the swing out cover on the end of the lathe.
