A Becker Strike Train Challenge
None of us like a mechanism that runs in our shop, but then starts to miss-behave when the customer sets it up. I just had such a situation with a 3 weight Becker Vienna regulator, circa 1901. The quarter strike worked fine, the weights went down at the same rate, no problems for a week on my test stand. Ship it off, and I hear that it is being erratic in counting the quarters, and hanging up periodically.
The first shot if the front of the mechanism - a pretty standard turn of the century Becker 3 weight.

Realizing that the tube is roughly 1/10 of an inch in diameter, the small dimple I made on the clip is small indeed. I used a staking tool to compress the steel (make the small dimple), then used a round escapement file to make the hole fit tight around the hollow tube. The dimple makes the clip fit very securely to the tube – minimizing its ability to move easily. With the screw reinstalled (in the hole beside the post) it should be very sturdy. And stay where it is supposed to be.
