VR-605 3 weight Vienna Regulator by Georg Ledl in Wien
It is sometimes intimidating to start into one of these wonderful 3 weight Viennese mechanisms. This piece, from perhaps 1870, or a bit earlier, epitomizes the extremely fine detail for which I so love these pieces. In a clock from this period, when clock makers in Vienna were still threading their own screws, one must measure virtually every screw and catalog where it came from - many of the screws, though they look identical, aren't. I am happy to say that all the screws are now snug in their threads.
I was particularly taken by the care the maker took i fitting the end to the crutch, the dimple to the end of each of the winding drum click springs, and the extremely fine and small gong hammers. Oh, and the unusual pulleys, with the pulley's and their included pivots sandwiched between skeletonized bales.

I love the way the maker made the pieces come together so perfectly. Realizing that the two pieces are about an eighth of an inch wide...
