VR-394 An Exquisite Vienna Regulator by Josef Reingruber in Wien
Claterbos tells us that Josef qualified as a master in 1846 and lived in the fourth district of Vienna in 1852. It appears he died by 1880. This mechanism reflects the exceptional quality of the earlier makers - combined with the improved metallurgy of the latter half of the 1800's.

Ticking Away
To get the full effect - click on the full screen symbol in the lower right hand corner. What you are seeing is the escapement ticking away, as photographed as a reflection off the back plate. And yes, there is little tissue residue on the back plate. The weight for this clock weighs 1.5 pounds, for a weeks duration. If it was German, think 3 or 4 pounds. British - well, 8 pounds anyway. American - I won't go there. I love the perfect, crisp motion of this escapement - face it - I love the quality that is the cornerstone of the hand-made Viennese mechanisms!
