VR-359 - Minitature Austrian Transitional period Vienna Regulator
This clock is so very small, measuring just 29 inches from the top to the bottom of its bottom finial, but oh so very nice, in a miniature sort of way.
With its 4 inch diameter dial, 3 inch bob, and 2.5 inch long weight, every thing about this little gem is “just right”. And the case is in great shape. This clock is built just like a full-size Vienna, only in miniature, including miniature wall stabilizers, hinges, I was especially taken with the small window frame to the top of the base - beautifully executed with trim that is all of a quarter inch wide. It is not often that one finds one of these little beauties in this nice of condition.
This clocks mechanism is the classic, extremely simple and very high quality piece one expects to find in a Viennese clock. And it is very nicely polished and running, for a week, on a weight that just weighs just 2 pounds.
As with so many of the clocks in this auction, individual details stand out when I looked at this piece. The first thing I noted (and fell in love with) was the ever so small, and ever so perfect pendulum bob. Zinc backed (a sign of quality) and so very small, measuring only 3 inches in diameter. I don’t think I have seen such a perfect and small bob before. And, then there is the miniature pendulum rod, in amazing condition, with all of its miniature bits. And the miniature beat scale, wall stabilizers, pulley, and, of course, the Viennese mechanism - able to run a week on a drop of only 9 inches!
The dial is perfect, with no hair-line cracks, the dial bezel and inner ring are gold plated, and the hands are perfect - just right for this piece, and all of the glass is old and wavy. And, as is typical of the clocks I bring in from Europe, the finish is in truly amazing and original condition.
