VR-255 - Austrian serpentine time and strike Vienna Regulator
The finish on this clock is in beautiful condition, and the mechanism has been recently cleaned and is running. This is a clock that is ready to hang on the wall, to live with, to enjoy.
In the right light (for this clock, any light makes it look great) the finish on this clock comes out deep maroon, shift a bit, and it looks almost black. The finish has been cleaned and waxed, and, in a few areas, touched up, but very well done. For a clock that is over a hundred years old it is in great shape. And, it is complete. While I believe the top finial is a replacement, old, and a reasonable color match, I don’t think it originally went with this clock. But it looks great, and provides just the right touch to finish out the style of the rest of the clock. Yes, I looked at the clock without the top finial, it really does a nice job of bringing the case together.
If quality is in the details, this clock has a perfect zinc-backed pendulum bob and adjustment nut, correct weights (nicely polished), matching engraved pulleys (the nicer, engraved as opposed to embossed ones), very nice pendulum rod, gorgeous dial with barely visible hairline cracks to the chapter ring, none to the dial center, very nice hands, original and perfect beat scale, and old wall stabilizers. It really is nice to be able to sell clocks that are complete.
In a world where there are so very many clocks that don’t have their original head-pieces, it is nice to be able to offer a few that are correct.
