VR-299 - Exquisitely carved Floor Standing Regulator of 2 month duration by Halbkram
This "Oh my god" case houses a mechanism by one of the foremost makers of the late 1800's. The good news is this case is amazingly complete. The bad - well, it was painted black at some point, and has pretty much fallen apart. A dear friend volunteered to strip off the black paint, paving the way for the restoration documented in this gallery. Fortunately, the case was amazingly complete, missing only the tips of a few carved leaves and one piece of molding. Check out the photos of it’s restoration!

A very good friend striped off the black paint on this piece. I was talking to another friend who suggested that clocks like this, truly phenomenal pieces, were painted black to keep Hitler's thieves from confiscating them. Will never know, but God what a terrible thing to do to a great clock.
Also - note the deer head to the side of the case - the first photos of this clock that I first saw were shot when it was in a wood-carvers shop in Austria - I commissioned a new headpiece since the original was missing.
