VR-59 2 Weight Late Biedermeie by Carlo Kuplwieser in Verona
Gads what a perfect little clock! I particularly love the tail treatment (so unusual), the dial, hands, headpiece, overall size, and of course the fact that it is from Verona. How often does one find a Vienna Regulator from Verona?
And it is a two weight from a period when two weight clocks were extremely uncommon. Note the early style gong mount, the rosewood veneer to the case, the rounded edges to the doors with the perfect carved bits to the top and bottom, the very unusual base and top molding, the lovely dial calligraphy, the classic, understated hands, a throw back to an earlier time (not unusual in a piece from as far away as Verona from the cultural center of Vienna) – a truly unusual gem, and in phenomenal condition.
This piece measures 43 inches long, with a width (at the top) of 12 inches, while the door is 9.25 inches wide. A very elegant and narrow piece that is, to me, just the right size.
