VR-549 - Biedermeier 3 weight
I mentioned the weight dropping at some point. Well, often when that happens the bottom is dropped out of the case. OUCH! Typically the gentle folks who then glue the base back on manage to get it glued back, but not necessarily where it really ought to be. Oh, and they use lots and lots of glue. So, step one is to gently dissolve the extra glue, then dissolve some more. Then gently remove the base, and spend a few hours soaking the residual glue to soften so it can be removed. I soak strips of toilet paper and lay it on the glue and let it sit for a while. When I get the old glue gone I make sure everything fits perfectly. Then I add lots of glue, and start clamping. A base like this will take me 2 to 3 hours to get clamped and the excess glue wiped up. It is so important to make sure that every little piece aligns perfectly and is clamped tightly back to where it was originally. OH, and all the excess glue gets wiped off. This particular clamp involved 13 or 14 clamps. It turned out perfect!
