VR-445 A Stunning 2 Month Duration Schönberger
I have had this clock for 10 years now - it hung for most of those years in our bedroom in Oklahoma, keeping phenomenal time. But, as with all of our clocks, this gem is one day going to find a new home. The case on this piece is as I bought it from Gerard Campbell in the UK. It is in perfect condition. As is the mechanism, though it did give me a chance to fine tune it when I first got it. What can I say about this piece – Huygens wind, complicated dial with date and day of week (in German) subsidiary dials, hands to absolutely die for, dial is perfect, no hairline cracks… I am especially taken by the trim around the door, the top and bottom of the case, and note the ever so delicate and complete brass trim above the door. And the absolutely perfect engine-turned bezel.
Even the wall stabilizers are original. Metal pendulum rod with faux brass grid iron rods to either side. Brass-backed pendulum bob, original pulleys, weights, the clock really is near perfect.
The case is veneered in birdseye maple, as far as I can tell, and is in excellent condition. Note the beautiful stringing and inlaid panel in the backboard. This piece is 49 inches long, and measures 11 inches wide at the widest point on the top, while the door measures 9 1/8 inches wide. A narrow, very elegant piece.
Look at the pictures, study the details, and then decide if you have ever seen a nicer clock. OK, there are a few out there, but this piece is a phenomenal example from one of the finest of the Viennese makers. And yes, it is pricey, but it is one of the best investments you could make today.
