VR-283 - Altdeutsche 2 Weight Vienna Regulator by Schlenker & Kienzle
The German movement is marked with the makers distinctive winged dial trademark, and the serial number 2923. The mechanism, with its four-post key-hole mounting, is in tarnished, but good condition. The dial, with its lovely and small winding hole grommets, is in perfect condition, with no chips or hair-line cracks. Note the neat little pulleys, a bit of a different design that makes them just that much more attractive.
Complete, and in good, original condition, this clock has a very nice bob, perfect pendulum rod, original wall stabilizers, and strikes on a steel rod (producing a deeper, more melodious tone than the coiled gongs on most Vienna Regulators).
The case, with its warm, walnut color, is in lovely condition: Cleaned, waxed, and ready to hang with a patina that comes from being well-cared for. Reflecting the complexity of the Altdeutsche style, the case is just a bit nicer than the average, making you take a second look - from the nicely executed carving to the door columns to the complexity of the top, with its headpiece surmounting an inset carved flourish. The case is also narrower than the norm, something I find just a bit more elegant than the wider cases.
If you get the chance to see this clock in person, run your hand down the front of the door - feel the satiny, original finish that is in such lovely condition!
