VR-535 3 weight Altdeutsche with Pewter Applique to the Dial, Weights and Bob
This piece came to me as part of a collection of very nice Vienna Regulator from a gentleman in Austria. I would have to say it is very, very rare to find a piece with the wonderful cast deco figurines on the weights, dial and pendulum bob. I had not seen similar pieces until we bought his collection.
This clock was made at the Gustav Becker factory in Braunau – it turns out that Beckers other factory, in Frieburg, did not make 3 weight Vienna Regulators, a fact I didn’t realize until just recently. The serial number, 433833, dates this clock to 1905.
The case measures 50 inches long by 18.75 inches at the widest part of the top. While originally missing, an appropriate top finial has been added to complete the top of the clock.
Being a Becker made post 1899, this clock strikes on two long gongs that hang down the back of the case. These gongs give a rich, deep tone, one that is very distinctive and very nice. While looking at this piece I noted the great carving, the really neat beat scale, and all the original bits and bobs (wall stabilizers, pulleys – nice embossed ones, door hook, hinges – all original and all in great shape).
