VR-3 1 Weight Serpentine by Daniel Endler in Prag
This clock, the third I bought via Bernhard, is truly wonderful. A very complete example of the serpentine style with a case that reflects the freedom of being made in Prag, outside the control of the Viennese guilds. Note the hands – with their rounded arm and matching design, the exceptional dial calligraphy, the unusual and ever so detailed finials, the unusual case design – a clock that is near perfect – only flaws are the tips of the two side leaves at the top of the clock. And, yes, these can be replaced such that it will not be apparent that they were ever missing. But, I actually prefer the small flaws to reflect the age and provenance of the piece.
This is an example of a clock that I just had to say “Buy it” when I first saw it – it is that unusual and that perfect.
