VR-568 - 1 weight Late Biemermeier with great-wheel skelatonized mechanism - simply fantastic
When my buyer says “oh-my-god”, I know he has found a rare clock. And, when I saw this clock in person, I could only agree. Interestingly, a clock with a similar mechanism can be found in the Uhren (Clock) museum in Vienna, Austria. While the case is missing a bit of its applied trim, it is none the less in amazingly great condition. This is an imposing piece, measuring 56 inches from top to bottom, the top of the case is 15.5 inches wide at its widest point. The case is also very thin from front to back – the front of the door is only 4.5 inches from the wall.
But, while the case will be absolutely stunning when restored, the mechanism is the focus in this piece. The great-wheel mechanism is truly fantastic, and it is one of the mechanisms I am truly excited about getting to restore. An interesting detail - the motion works is contained in the shield-shaped box behind the hands. I have not yet taken the time to determine the duration for this piece, but assume it is in the 2 to 3 day range. Note that his is a second-beating mechanism with a meter-long pendulum
Note too the faux winding arbor. This mechanism is truly one of the most fascinating I have seen.
