VR-572 3 weight Late Biedermeier
572 - 3 weight Late Biedermeier with a two piece dial and a pie-crust bezel. I would date this piece to the 1840 to 1850 time frame. Note the elaborate case details, still subdued, but many more striking details than found on the earlier clocks, which tend more to the simplicity of the dachluhren. I am expecially taken by the gorgeous double arch to the top. Being toward the middle of the Biedermeier period, 572 also has hands that are wonderfully complex when compared to the earlier styles. Note too the complexity to the bottom of the case, with its multiple curves and very elegant form. I have to admit I find the base on this clock really nice, with its correct tail piece and the gorgeous veneers.
A wonderfully complete piece (except for its headpiece), this clock will cost $6,500 when I have gone through the case and mechanism, delivered in the lower 48. And, for an additional $500 it will have an appropriate headpiece.
