VR-616 Lenzkirch Time and Strike Wall Regulator
This wonderfully small and so very ornate clock measures only 37 inches long. And, while the mechanism is unmarked, it, and the case, reflect the quality one would expect to find in a clock made by Lenzkirch. Based on the excellent book by George Everett (Lenzkirch Clocks – the Unsigned Story) I would say this is an unmarked Lenzkirch, in as much as the serial number falls into the range that George Everett identified for the unmarked clocks. When I look at the attention to detail, both in the case, and the mechanism, I can only say it really is of the finest German quality – which makes sense of its being a Lenzie.
I shot a couple of shots of the mechanism to point out the kind of details I appreciate. Two small details - the beveled washers under the screws holding the mechanism to the seat plate, and the scalloped end of the strike train fan - compare with clock 615 – a signed Lenzkirch – I really like this small mechanism, easily up to the quality of a Lenzkirch!
The case is surprisingly complete – there is a piece of trim missing to the side of the top – it will be replaced with a piece that will match extremely well. Likewise there is a bit of the cast brass trim to the front of the base that is missing. I will center the remaining trim and I suspect it will look great.
Look at the pictures (realizing they were shot when I first saw this clock and are not studio shots), and visualize how great it will look when cleaned up, the case waxed to bring out its color and all the dust and grime polished away. It really is a very rare, and very special piece. Price, delivered in the lower 48, and all cleaned up, is $3,700
